Two Stage Waterproofing System in Valley Cottage, NY
Challenge
A family had just purchased their home, and finished their entire basement which included a remodeling and building of an apartment for their mother in law.
During heavy rain season she woke up to two inches of water all over both her apartment and the basement. They initally called a disaster relief company to manage the incoming water. After this they begain researching companies that could help them get their lives back on track. After much research they decided to give us a call to both take care of the problem, as well prevent any future issues from occuring.
Upon entering and inspecting the issues at had our expert discovered multiple challenges. The challenges that were encountered were those of having a monolythic slab, were the slab and footing were even, and finally they had a finished bathroom that they did not want to remove for the work to be done. Because of the challenges that were encountered three different waterproofing systems had to be implemented to resolve the issues at hand.
Solution
Where the monolytic slab was we installed a two stage woaterproofing system, meaning we did a DryTrak against the wall where the floor and wall meet. We also came away from the wall eight inches and jackhammered through the floor to install perforated pipe and gravel to stop hyrdostatic pressure from occuring.
If we had jackhammered next to the wall floor joint as in a traditional french drain the structural integrity would be compromised as it would remove a third of the footing or the foot print for the house to stand on. This is where our two stage waterproofing system comes in and eliminates water from coming in and doing damage to the integrity of the house.
We installed a two stage waterproofing system in order to stop the water from coming in at the wall floor joint, as well to stop any water from coming up through the floor through the floor crack.
In order to waterproof were the floor was even with the footing we had to use FloGuard waterproofing system which was tied directly into the two stage waterproofing system to create a continuous flow towards the sum pump.
Finally where the customers finished bathroom was we needed to do an exterior dig up and install new footing drains and apply waterproof coating to walls with proper drainwall, and also to tie into our system and the sum pump.
In the end after multiple quotes they decided to go with us as we ended up being the most comprehensive and detailed option to take care and address all the problems at hand while implmenting and tying multiple systems into one functional system.
From start to finish they felt confident moving forward with us to get everything done to get their lives back to normal as quick as possible. We were able to do this by devoting a tremendous amount of man power to this multi faceted project, and in doing so were able to complete everything in less than two days.
